We KNOW that exercise is good for us...but maintaining that motivation can be tough for everyone.

The benefits of finding an exercise program that feels good for you are immeasurable. It’s important to find that routine that will help keep you motivated and on track with your goals throughout the year.

I find this is probably the biggest secret to success in your exercise program. I know for many of my clients that come to my Bootcamp & Kickboxing classes, they show up each day because of how good they feel during and after the sessions. Losing weight and looking good is only part of the reason to exercise. Being able to move with ease, feel more confident, have an improved mindset and the energy to keep up with your active lifestyle – that’s the real goal.

Your motivation and commitment starts in your head so it's time to change your mindset. Whether it's leaving positive postit notes around the house or setting reminders on your phone...do whatever you can to start believing in yourself. Small daily steps add up and once you believe in yourself it makes your fitness journey easier.  CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE

One of my boot campers told me that she looks forward to Boot Camp all week and it's her Friday treat. I LOVE this attitude. Before she started her fitness journey, I don’t think she ever thought she would hear herself say that! Exercise is fun and it makes you feel good and you need to think of it as a treat, not another obstacle that you have to cram into your week. So alter negative perspectives into positives & create healthy habits not restrictions. WORKOUTS ARE A TREAT

Routine is key! This may sound crazy but scheduling your exercise time is a great way to ensure you actually do it. Waking up in the morning and thinking "I’ll do a run later today" generally means it won't actually happen. Find a time of the day that works for you and set reminders in your phone to stick to this. SCHEDULE A REGULAR WORKOUT TIME

We know that goal setting is effective for work...but it's the same for exercising!  Set realistic goals and milestones that you CAN achieve. If you set them too high...your motivation will dip even further. It's also important to make sure you can actually adapt your life around meeting the goal. SET A GOAL

We like variety to help us stay motivated so try and mix up your exercise to ensure you actually enjoy it too!  That's why I like to use a variety of equipment and bodyweight exercises, different methods involving working to time, reps, in teams and individually. Workout variety also challenges your body in unique ways, which may introduce you to new muscle groups you didn’t even know you had. THINK FUN AND VARIETY

Whatever you do...make sure it benefits you mentally and physically. A good fitness program should improve your brain health, help you to manage your weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles and improve your ability to do everyday tasks.

There is a bond that is created when a group struggles, sweats & fights their way through a tough workout. Find a healthy environment whether that’s in my Bootcamp/Kickboxing group or some other group. THERE IS STRENGTH IN NUMBERS

Try exercising with someone else to help motivate you. Whether it's a PT or a friend...chose someone that works for you, who enjoys exercise or who shares a common goal...this will help avoid you discouraging each other! REACH OUT TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE FOR SUPPORT.

Remember to start off easy and carefully. Always warm up and always stretch at the end of a workout to avoid injury! Work at your own pace and then build the intensity as you build your fitness.
